Sometimes people ask me what the Green Microgym’s carbon footprint reduction is compared to other gyms.
Per square foot we use about 85% less electricity than traditional gyms with a combination of a lot of things, particularly our energy-saving culture. Members are empowered and instructed in ways to use less electricity without sacrificing experience, sometimes enhancing it.
In addition, we use energy-saving equipment and energy-generating equipment which results in a lower electric bill.
In fact, the power company came out to check out why we were using so much less.
We have done some studies with interns to do the math. Carbon footprint reduction calculations are tough and require a lot of estimating. But, we estimate that we probably save about 85% per square foot and carbon footprint, meaning we use a lot less water. We don’t sell plastic water bottles. If you’re a member of this gym, and you walk or ride your bike to gym, your carbon footprint reduction over the year is about one ton!
If every gym became an eco-friendly gym, all of those members around the world would contribute to about 16,000,000 tons of carbon reduction!
